Minutes - April 15, 2010
The Membership Meeting was held April 15, 2010, at Legends.
Following the networking session at approximately 6:30 p.m., Suzanne Vendena, President, welcomed members and guests. Everyone was asked to introduce themselves and those who were new members to introduce themselves as such. She then introduced the evening’s speaker, Bob Holmes, Coordinator for the Southeastern Region of World at Work and an Advisory Board Member. Bob’s program focused on two topics: local networks and World at Work partnerships, and a mentoring program (designed to give students exposure to HR professionals).
Bob spoke until approximately 7:30 p.m., discussing how World at Work is a liaison to local compensation and benefits networks. World at Work was founded in 1955 as the American Compensation Association and became World at Work in 2000. There are approximately 30,000 members throughout 100 countries. World at Work offers various training opportunities including certification courses, as well as various research materials, conferences and networking opportunities.
The Local Network Advisory Board assesses local network needs, communicates World at Work operations, products and services, is a goodwill ambassador, and assists local networks with troubleshooting and solving organizational challenges.
Vanessa Crawford Jones, Past President, discussed why Bob was asked to speak, referencing the revenue share program to increase Association revenue. Also addressed were the benefits of the $40 membership fee paid by CFCBA members. Members were informed that their renewal notices referenced sharing of e-mail addresses, and that the CFCBA Board wants membership informed regarding the decisions it is facing about joining the revenue share program, before any decision is made as there also are operational guidelines to be followed once joining the program.
Bob concluded his program at 8:00 p.m. after discussing the mentoring program and our responsibilities to share knowledge and help continue the professional education of students entering the benefits and compensation world.
Networking continued for those able to stay following the presentation, until approximately 9:00 p.m.
